Transition Mapping Tool

We have learned the value of “meeting people where they are”.  Now it’s time for you to meet you where you are.

Consider this mapping tool as you are self-reflecting. Realistically, what is your position on this map? You may find yourself in numerous quadrants experiencing different transitions simultaneously.  Going through this mapping exercise will help determine your starting point(s).

THINK, FEEL, DO. Exercise

Identify a specific situation or challenge you are experiencing.  Go through this exercise putting yourself as the focal point and/or putting the other person (s) in the situation as the focal point.  Based on the output; plot out some action steps from an empathetic lens.

Some examples to consider:

  • You’re starting a new job and feeling apprehensive about forming new relationships.

  • A family member and you are having conflict regarding a certain issue.

  • A longtime friendship has become dysfunctional.

  • You manage a team and collaboration has become difficult.

Personal Brand Identity Matrix Exercise

Populate this matrix using the prompts as a guideline to frame up your Personal Brand Identity.  Use the prompts in the book to populate each quadrant.

Brand Voice & Tone Chart Template

Complete this simple exercise in order to figure out what you are and what you are not, simultaneously.  Simply fill in the blanks in this sentence:

“I’m______________________, but I’m not_________________.”

Once you’ve repeated this process several times you will arrive at three or four sentences that best describe your brand.  Here’s an example of what it might look like when you’re finished.

“I’m sincere, but I’m not exclusive.”

“I’m visionary, but I’m not detail-oriented.”

“I’m genuine, but I’m not myopic.”

“I’m energetic, but I’m not authoritative.”

Now, you have key voice characteristics as building blocks for your Voice and Tone.  Creating your own Brand Voice & Tone Chart using the template below. Reference the example chart in the book for context.

T.I.C.K. External-Focused Brand Expression Exercise

Make a list of attributes and examples you currently possess (and communicate) in each quadrant.  Assess where you fall in each of these quadrants on a scale of 1-5 (5 being highest ranking).  This will signal what areas you need to work on to enhance your overall Brand Expression performance on an external-focused basis.

Personal Brand Internal Focused Metrics Chart

Use the prompts to check the boxes (Red, Yellow, or Green) indicating where you stand today and where you want to be in the future. This provides a prioritization of your internal areas of focus.

Red = High Priority—Areas that are both urgent and important

Yellow = Need Attention—Areas that are important but do not require immediate attention

Green = Maintain Activities—Areas to be actively maintained, keep the status quo

Personal Branding Performance Scorecard

This proprietary Personal Branding Performance Scorecard can serve as a living breathing document for measuring your performance in a variety of the key areas covered throughout the book.

The Scorecard will help you identify the areas of strength as well as the areas of opportunity.  I encourage you to use it as an ongoing tool for assessment and accountability.  It’s a dynamic tool that can be downloaded and updated on a consistent basis. Share your progress with others.

IKIGAI Diagram Exercise

Populate this diagram to identify:
