Change of Seasons
September 1, 2024 marked the fist day of the Fall season. It’s probably my favorite season in Kentucky. Typically, the temperature gets a bit cooler. Leaves are changing. Fireplaces are blazing. We’re able to gather comfortably outdoors for a ballgame or a cookout.
We can also look at the Change of Seasons in our personal and professional lives. We all are in some sort of season change. Perhaps we are transitioning to a new job or a new neighborhood. A new city move is in the works. Our families are growing. Maybe we are moving into empty nester status or retirement. Kids are moving to college or graduating college. Grandchildren are arriving…… which is the best season of all!
The Fall also marks a time for businesses to start solidifying their business plans for the upcoming year. Budgets are set. Organizational structures are revamped. Forecasts are cemented. Some jobs open up and some companies downsize. Pricing strategies shift. New markets expand. Value propositions need to be revisited. It’s a season of change and preparation from the business lens.
From a personal perspective, I believe we take time in the Fall to reflect on what’s ahead. Short term: How we are going to spend the holidays? What changes do we need to implement in terms of household budgeting in anticipation for a new year? Long term, we start planning for what we want to accomplish in 2025. What does personal growth look like? What changes would we like to make in our health and wellness? How are we going to hold ourselves accountable?
All of this can be very exciting and a little bit daunting at the same time. So, I took note of all the positives to kick off my season. My family has been blessed with a wonderful year to date with a big punctuation point coming soon.
Our son (the youngest of our bunch) is marrying the girl of his dreams in October. We are thrilled to welcome Abby into the family. We are also over the moon that they have made the move to Nashville, TN from NYC----quite a bit closer to “home”. Though they loved their time in New York, it’s good to be back in the South for a bit.
Our youngest granddaughter has started a new preschool program in Lexington and thriving at her “big girl” school. The crowning jewel of 2024 will be the birth of our grandson in late November! Again, our second daughter is expecting her second son and we are so thankful that baby and mother are doing well during the pregnancy.
All that said, I am taking this Change of Seasons to soak this all in and make sure I am self-aware of many blessings I have in my life. Ideally, I’m spending time by our wood burning fireplace, burgers on the grill, and friends and family gathered on the deck😊
