No Agenda Necessary
No Agenda Necessary
I’m behind on writing my monthly blogs. It seems time has flown by at warp speed. We welcomed our newly minted grandson in May. My husband had two successful back-to-back knee replacement surgeries. My UofL spring and summer courses were engaging and packed full of new content. GCJ Consultants is embracing some new business. To top things off, I am now an official investor in a new endeavor (to be announced in the next month or so). So, my schedule has been full.
As our followers know, I am traditionally a “planner.” I like a concrete plan outlining the priorities and what I am going to accomplish. I live and breathe by a schedule. As my family began to map out our summer plans, I took an unconventional approach. Let’s just take a week at a time and see where we land.
It’s working! So far, we’ve reconnected with some out-of-town friends on a whim. Made pop-up play dates with our grandkids. My parents made an impromptu visit to Louisville and we were able to enjoy a relaxing simple meal and evening at home. The most recent success story occurred this week. We put together a last-minute trip to visit some of our older kids and grandkids in Indiana. Lots of good food, story sharing and laughter. While enjoying coffee the next morning, we decided to stay an extra day and ……….do nothing! We just enjoyed the lovely hotel and the fact that we had no agenda. That’s a new thing for me and one I think I’m going to hold on to. We discovered amazing eateries and interesting history. We walked the streets, met some out-of-towners (like us) and made fast friends.
Unplanned. Unexpected. Unreal.
As the summer progresses, I’m excited about what is to come from this lack of a game plan. We’ll see how I play the long game of unplanned. So far, I highly encourage you to give the “no agenda necessary” approach a try.
